Innovation Anthology #290:
Some people retire to a life of golf and gardening. Not Perry Kinkaide.
His passion for helping the entrepreneur has given rise to the Alberta Council of Technologies.
Over the last five years his network has grown into a dynamic force of over 5000.
And as Perry Kinkaide explains, ABC Tech interest is at the heart of building Alberta’s new economy.
PERRY KINKAIDE: Well in the broadest sense, I’d say diversification of the economy. We have relied on wheat and meat and fibre and timber, and oil and gas for many years and been extraordinarily successful. But we can’t continue to rely on carbon. We’ve got to learn how to transform it into something more valuable. And we see in our research universities the capability to take some of these extraordinary ideas that you speak of regularly at CKUA and to try and help society better understand the potential of those technologies to transform this province.
Perry Kinkaide says to date ABC Tech has focused discussion on rural broadband, fusion energy, and stem cell therapies. On the agenda for 2010 are clean technologies and artificial intelligence.
