Innovation Anthology #322:
Advancements in computer technology have given rise to many improvements in the delivery of health care.
These include things like robotics, sensors, and telehealth.
But it’s a long hard road getting from the lab bench to market.
Clinexus is a new agency which will help smooth out some of those bumps in the road to commercialization.
Executive director Rob Beamish gives this example.
ROB BEAMISH: The medical world runs on evidence, whether it’s a protocol or whether it’s a drug. Well, the same holds true with health technologies. So what companies need to do is have some way of actually generating evidence if they hope to sell their product into the health care field. And so we’re working on some programs that might be able help them gain access to specialized areas that can help them with demonstration projects. And that can be all the way from testing your technology through to proving that the value proposition of their product works.
The Alberta government has invested almost $3 million dollars in Clinexus. And according to Rob Beamish, his team has identified over 130 companies as potential clients.
