If you can’t make it alone, then collaboration is the next best thing. That’s the driving force behind PNWER, a new partnership between several Canadian and American jurisdictions in the Pacific Northwest Economic Region.
Andy Melnyk, a senior strategist with Innovation Saskatchewan, is a member of PNWER’s Innovation Group.
ANDY MELNYK: And what we have been looking at is how we can actually pool our resources, our innovation assets, to actually gain some synergies around accelerating research into new technology based products and such. And so we’ve been over the course of the past year developing an innovation assets inventory, which identifies a number of things that would fit in the innovation ecosystem. It could be research organizations. It could be actual research infrastructure. It could be seed and venture capital funding mechanisms,. It could be research parks and so on. So basically we would see contributing to the business of innovation.
As Andy Melnyk explains, through PNWER, provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta could tap into startup capital and business expertise from its other Canadian and American partners.
