Innovation Anthology #434:
Trusted Positioning Inc is an up and coming geomatics company in Calgary.
According to co-founder Chris Goodall the company develops enabling technology that integrates wireless signals with sensor signals. And it uses the MEMS technology that you might find in an iPhone or Nintendo Wii.
This technology will reduce the cost of producing, for example, driverless vehicles.
CHRIS GOODALL: By using the low cost sensors, we’re targeting some more of the mainstream applications. So the mainstream applications would be things like consumer assisted driving, localization in a phone, and precision agriculture where they require assistance for say less than one thousand dollars. There are very expensive precision agriculture systems that are on some of the higher end tractors, but these systems might go 20 thousand to 50 thousand dollars, where we’re really looking at providing that sort of sub thousand dollar system on a machine, sub 100 dollar system on a car and sub 20 dollar system on a phone.
Chris Goodall says his companies method of integrating sensors gives a 60 to 70 percent improvement over current technology.
And with funding from TecTerra, Trusted Positioning has several new patents and will launch two new products in 2012.
