Physician turned entrepreneur Dr. Breanne Everett has made history at the 2013 TEC VenturePrize Business Plan Competition.
Last year her startup company Orpyx Inc won the student TEC VenturePrize. And this year it won the Fast Growth category.
As well, Dr. Everett is now the first woman to have won the TEC VenturePrize.
DR BREANNE EVERETT : Over the process of tonight, I have actually been approached by a number of women who in various ways are helping to bridge the gap between women and technology. And so it’s really great to see this growing trend and this growing group of supporters of that. So I think it just sort of emphasizes that and it’s great.
Dr. Breanne Everett says the TEC VenturePriize of $100,000 in cash and in-kind services will help grow the company.
DR. BREANNE EVERETT: We are currently ramping up for commercialization of our first product, the SurroSense RX. That will be commercialized by late summer. So it will really go towards getting everything ready for manufacturing and doing that first production run.
Orpyx has developed wireless, wearable sensor technology that helps diabetic patients who have lost feeling in their feet.
