Innovation Anthology #558:
Lethbridge, Alberta is hosting the 52nd annual Canada Wide Science Fair.
This national event draws the winners from about one hundred regional science fairs across Canada. And now 500 young scientists in grades 7 through 12 will demonstrate their inventions, experiments and innovations.
The winning students will share in over a million dollars in prizes, scholarships and a chance to compete internationally.
Mark Bellamy is a managing partner with Stantec and is co-chair of the Canada Wide Science Fair hosting committee.
He’s also one of 350 judges at the week long event.
MARK BELLAMY: There is a standardized judging process and really it’s looking at the technical completeness of the work, any innovation that is advanced through the project or original research. It’s also really looking at the process by which they undertook their science fair project. So log books, and diaries basically project documentation Also again how it’s presented on the project boards. And finally its really how the finalists interact. Again part of the process is for the finalists to explain their projects and to answer the questions.
Results of the Canada Wide Science Fair in Lethbridge are posted on the web at www.cwsf.youthscience.ca.
