Innovation Anthology #574:
TEC Edmonton has just been named as the top university business incubator in Canada.
And number seventeen in the world.
This ranking comes from the Swedish agency, UBI University Business Incubator Index.
For its 2013 Global review, UBI Index surveyed 150 university incubators from 22 countries.
For CEO Chris Lumb, it was an opportunity highlight TEC Edmonton’s unique operating model.
CHRIS LUMB: We completed a survey late last year. And they conducted this with incubators around the world. It was pretty comprehensive. They looked at a lot of different factors. Activities for one thing. But Activities you know are just that. They’re not necessarily a measure of outcomes. They also focused a lot on asking about outcomes. So things like how well are the companies doing, in terms of growth, how well do they do in terms of accessing markets, how well do they do in terms of raising financing. Because we have measured that sort of thing for our clients pretty extensively over several years. So having that data I think made a big difference because we could actually show outcomes.
Chris Lumb says TEC Edmonton’s clients employ over 1200 people and have raised over $84 million dollars.
