Innovation Anthology #596:
What’s next in green building?
Certainly there’s the new LEED Version 4 standard for non-toxic construction materials.
That’s one major topic the Alberta Biomaterials Development Centre will highlight in its upcoming Seminar on February 25th.
Ruth DeSantis is a Business Development Officer wth the Alberta Biomaterials Develoment Centre.
RUTH DESANTIS: We’re going to be hearing from the executive director for the Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Green Building Association on certification systems and standards. We’re also going to get the opportunity to hear from Alberta Infrastructure and what they look for when they are sourcing materials for buildings. A material manufactuer that focuses on utilizing innovative materials. So they’re going to be talking about how they brought their mushroom building material to the market, and some of the challenges with that and opportunities. We’re also going to be hearing from industry experts about LEED Version 4 and what that could mean. And the lifecycle assessments for green building and the development of lifecycle assessments.
According to Ruth DeSantis, the mushroom biomatieral is used in packaging and insulation.
