Innovation Anthology #617:
Aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Province of Alberta.
With an initial term of four years, the partnership will support innovation and commercialization through Campus Alberta.
Brad Pietras is Vice President of Technology with Lockheed Martin.
BRAD PIETRAS: Principally we’re beginning by working with the University of Alberta on a number of research projects that are geared toward taking advantage of the really cutting edge, world class research and faculty here. And the reason for the MOU is to basically make a public declaration of our intent and our desire to work with the University and to work with Alberta in ways that both support the ambitions and the scale and the scope of the economy of Alberta as well the business of Lockheed Martin.
According to Brad Pietras, the MOU grows out of research Lockheed Martin is already funding at the University of Alberta.
BRAD PIETRAS:Working with the University of Alberta is step one. The organization and signing of the MOU today by Dr. Ray Johnson and by the Premier is sort of step two, And typically from that point forward it grows. People know what we’re doing, they get excited about the opportunity and we find more and more opportunities for ourselves to partner.
Research already underway includes new technology for batteries and computers.
