Innovation Anthology #685:
Getting a man on the moon required a grand vision and collaboration to get there.
That’s the guiding principle behind the approach Dr. Carlo Montemagno employs as the director of Ingenuity Lab.
It’s a paradigm shift in the way we perceive intractable problems and how to solve them.
DR. CARLO MONTEMAGNO:
At Ingenuity Lab, we are unique in that our organization is designed to bring the people together to solve these big problems and to achieve those large scale goals. And this is very, very different than the way most people work. Unfortunately, the challenge that you have is most projects are not funded that way. They are funded based upon solving isolated individual goals and there is no place where there’s a a collective thought on getting things done. The second problem is, this whole process is one that requires a coherent vision and goal that you are setting that you work towards achieving. That means that you can’t change what you’re doing every six months or eighteen months and say oh, we’re going to work on something else, because you will never really get where you need to go.
Dr. Montemagno says funding for Ingenuity Lab and its projects comes from the Alberta Government and industry partnerships.
