Innovation Anthology #687:
Incontinence captured the day at the 2015 TEC VenturePrize.
Winner of the hundred thousand dollar Grand Prize is Sensassure.
This is an Edmonton start up determined to make a difference in the overlooked elder care market.
Sameer Dhar is a co-founder and CEO of Sensassure.
SAMEER DHAR: So we are developing a smart patch that sits on the outside of any commercially available diaper or incontinence product. It tracks moisture levels on the inside of that product to the outside and then relays that information through to caregivers and nursing staff so they know when to change residents. So for use in long term care and institutional settings where we’ve got elderly folks with incontinence.
Sameer says the patch will cost about fifty dollars and it comes with hi tech diapers.
SAMEER DHAR: On a regular basis, we don’t actually expect it to continuously get soiled. These briefs are very high tech made to hold moisture. There’s a moisture barrier on the outside. But in the event that they do get soiled, because they inevitably will, we’re planning to make this machine washable as well as spray and wipe with these existing chemicals that folks use in long term care right now.
The Sensassure crew is now working with a client in Maryland to further refine its incontinence sensor.
