Winner of the 2016 TEC Venture Prize in the Fast Growth Category is Dakota Supplies Inc.
This Alberta startup is well on its way to cleaning up the airline industry.
And that’s with a product called Moppitt.
It’s essentially a stick mop with a retractable head and canisters of cleaning solution inside.
Co-founder Debra Humphries explains.
DEBRA HUMPHRIES: It has aviation cleaning and disinfectant inside the product. So it doesn’t just wipe up the spill. It actually will protect against germs and it helps in occupational health and safety for sanitization.
According to Dakota’s CEO Vaughan Payne, the market potential for the Moppitt is sky high.
VAUGHAN PAYNE: The intent is to go after the top 200 airlines in the world. The business plan has a very detailed financial program. And we have basically categorized every airline in the world and driven it down to the number of aircraft per airline fleet, the number of bathrooms, galleys, how often they would fly. The numbers are actually staggering when we think about the number of cartridges that would be used.
Other target markets for the Moppitt include ambulance, hospital, and buses.
