#784: Dr Marian Weber: Pooling Resources For Holistic Approach
Dr. Marian Weber is an environmental economist with Alberta Innovates.
She says companies already spend a lot of money on reducing their environmental impacts.
But how these expenditures contribute to overall sustainability is unknown.
This provides a business case to support what she’s developing, which is an Ecosystem Services Clearinghouse and Exchange.
DR MARIAN WEBER: The whole point around having this Clearinghouse and Exchange is so that all of the companies can interact in a single platform and by sharing information be able to pool their investments in a way that’s going to generate what I would hope would be the biggest bang for the buck in terms of environmental protection. And also this clearinghouse is going to look at all of the different ecosystem services holistically and not just one at a time.
Dr. Marian Weber says this removes the scattered approach to mitigation by pooling the resources of companies, government and land trusts to improve environmental protection.
She’s now testing this holistic approach to land use management on farmland near Pincher Creek.
