If ever anyone had a broad portfolio, it’s Dr. Cornelia Kreplin.

Cornelia is the Executive Director of Sustainable Production and Quality Food for Health with Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions.

Her role in foresight and research investment brings together agriculture and forestry. And it begins with a focus on sustainable production.

DR. CORNELIA KREPLIN:
Sustainable production in either agriculture or forestry can be considered to be reducing the cost of production for producers, so that would be an economic outcome. It could also be increasing value or profitability. And finally, it’s about looking after our environment and making sure that production practices contribute to a healthy environment.

Research projects on the agriculture side address issues like climate change and increased food production, as well as intriguing novelties.

DR. CORNELIA KREPLIN:
So we would look at things that are way out there, like looking at the possibility of using eggshells as a means of producing super capacitors, for instance.

Dr. Kreplin department has partnered with several agencies to support research projects worth over 180 million dollars.
