CC:  YOU’RE HERE AT THE INNOVATE CALGARY TECHSTOCK SHOW AND YOU HAVE A COMPANY NAMED REARM.  WHAT’S THAT?

DG:  It’s an arm roller company. But, we are looking to expand to do other limbs like the calf, the quads, the shins.  But for now we’re focusing on the arm roller and expanding in the future.

CC:  AND WHAT DOES THAT DO?  WHAT DOES THE ARM ROLLER DO?

DG:  It breaks up scar tissue, prevents injury, helps injured people.  Carpal Tunnel, Tennis Elbow, any sort of, anything you do in life that will give you a repetitive injury. Rock climbers, it’s been a big hit.

CC:  WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THIS COME FROM?

DG:  It came from me.  I’ve been massaging for 17 years.  I’ve seen the travel roller.  I’ve heard about all kinds of rollers.  But nobody has ever thought about an arm roller.  And I was massaging one day, I was pretty sore, and the idea came.  Because I was actually thinking about my mom’s old washing machine with the two rollers.  I was thinking it would be nice to get my arm through there.  A little light bulb went off, yeah.

CC:  WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?  CAN YOU DESCRIBE IT TO ME?

DG: Yes.  So there’s one ball on the top, two on the bottom.  The balls have dimples in them. They act like little suction cups that pull up on the fascia as you are rolling through.  So not only is it compressing, it’s pulling also.  There are different tension band pressures, so there’s a medium, light and heavy.  And it is a stainless steel unit.  But we have built a mould.  And the improved model.  It has 6 different tension bands, and you can use it on the road.  The one that is before me now you actually can only use it on a counter with suction cups.

CC:  AND WHEREABOUTS ARE YOU MARKETING THIS?

DG:   The actual owner of the company, she is working with Innovate Calgary here.  So she’s rented out a little space, and she’s working with a lot of different people here.

CC:  SO YOU ARE ACTUALLY ON THE ROAD TO COMMERCIALIZATION.  IS THAT IT?

DG:  Exactly.

CC:  AND WHERE ARE THEY MADE?

DG:  It’s being made in Airdrie.  Their name is AIM Alta Injection Moulding Company.  And they’ve been real great.

CC:  THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

DG:  You’re welcome.
